Perfect practice makes perfect play


Have you heard the old adage “practice makes perfect?” It is important to practice on your golf swing however are you, the player practicing correctly? Try subscribing to the idea that “perfect practice” makes perfect and what that idea is.

How many players started out the season getting a lesson from their professional to cure “topping the ball”, “fixing” that slice or reducing all those “3″ putts then as the season ended, the player finds themselves no better off? The professional no doubt gave the player some tools and drills to be practiced but did the player follow through?

Get disciplined, establish a practice and pre-swing routine for each shot while at the driving range. Don’t go into the pro-shop, get that bucket of balls, whack all those balls back onto the range in a span of 15 minutes. Take your time on each practice shot and golf-practicefocus exactly on what your professional asked you to work on.

A good practice routine to start out with would be pulling out one of your short irons be it sand or pitching wedge. This will help with getting the player loose taking away the “desire” to pull out that driver and “crushing” it 300 yards. Stand back behind the ball and pick your target line for each shot. During address ensure you have a proper grip, stance and club face alignment. The players thoughts should now be on two things, good ball striking and executing the instructions the professional passed on.

After the practice session, let your professional know how it went, stay disciplined and the results will come.
